St. Petersburg is a city of federal importance, the city of three revolutions, the hero-city of Leningrad, the most important after Moscow economic, industrial, cultural and scientific center, the major transport hub. It was founded by Peter the Great more than three hundred years ago at the exit to the Baltic Sea; St. Petersburg-Petrograd-Leningrad-St. Petersburg marked the border between the Russian middle ages and new time. The city is located on the Gulf of Finland coast and at the mouth of the river Neva. This is the most Northern city in the world with population over five million people.
St. Petersburg is one of the most important centers of tourism in Russia. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The historical city centre and the related complexes of monuments are included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Among the most significant cultural objects - the Hermitage, Russian Museum, Mariinsky theatre, the Russian Museum, Peter and Paul fortress, Isaakievsky and Kazan cathedrals. The city has five railway stations (Baltiiski, Vitebski, Ladojsky, Moskovski and Finlandski).

The city also has a well-developed network of bus and trolleybus traffic. Currently, a significant amount of transport is minibus taxi.
